A bottom whorl spindle just means that the weight (whorl) is on the bottom of the spindle instead of the top.

If you have never tried a bottom whorl then you are in for a real treat.  We recommend these spindles for beginners who have trouble with the top whorl and for someone who prefers to spin chunky yarns.
